Seared Sesame Tuna with Avocado

IMG_6584

I’ve been in a rut lately. I’m tired of the heavy flavors and textures of winter food.  I’ve been craving light, fresh flavors.  I picked up some tuna steaks, an avocado, and a lime at the store today.   I kept it  quick and simple and when I added some coconut rice for a side, we could almost feel the sand between our toes.

Sesame Seared Tuna Steaks with Lime and Avocado

2 tuna steaks, about 1 1/2″ thick
2 Tbsp. white sesame seeds
2 Tbsp. black sesame seeds
Kosher salt
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
1 avocado
1 lime

Slice the avocado, sprinkling with Kosher salt, and set aside. Cut the lime into sections.

Mix the sesame seeds together on a plate. Heat the oil in a nonstick pan over medium-high heat until it’s shimmering. Sprinkle Kosher salt on the tuna steaks. Roll the steaks in the sesame seeds. Place in frying pan and sear for a couple of minutes on each side to desired doneness. Adjust the heat if you need to. We prefer rare to medium rare.

Transfer to a cutting board and let rest for about 5 minutes. Thinly slice tuna across the grain. Serve the sliced tuna and avocado over the rice and squeeze the lime juice over it all.

  1. Ann, it’s just eerie how often I check out your blog in the middle of the day and think, hey, that’s what I had for breakfast!
