Sunrise Donuts . . . and Spring Rolls

When I stopped in at Sunrise Donuts this morning for my pink crueller, they had up a sign advertising egg rolls, spring rolls and chicken wings every Saturday beginning at 9 am.  I believe the owners are Vietnamese although I’m not positive.

I asked the man behind the counter about it and he said it was something they had done during their grand re-opening celebration. It was such a hit that people asked them to bring back the savory goodies.  I can’t wait to try them.

So you don’t always have to be in the mood for donuts for a Saturday trip to Sunrise Donuts.

I was on vacation last week and missed the re-opening on May 12, but I stopped on the way to work this morning and picked up 2 dozen cruellers.  Need I say more?  Except that I believe the cruellers may be better than ever!

Update: I stopped by on my way home from work today. The work is in progress, but it still looks like it’ll be a few weeks. But the important piece, the bakery display case, is in place. It looks like they will have a nice bright space.

I’ve changed my route to and from work so I missed this. Sandy K let me know that a new Sunrise Donut sign is going up at Great Bear Center! My mouth is already watering for a pink-frosted crueller. Thanks for the update Sandy!

R.I.P. Sunrise Donuts

I drove by the Great Bear Center on Lyndale in Bloomington last Friday and Sunrise Donuts was gone!  They made the best cruellers I’ve ever had.  My preference was for the ones with pink frosting.  Frosting always tastes the best when it’s pink!  When you bit into one the inside was soft and almost custardy, like the best popover you’ve ever had.  Part of me is in denial and hoping they’re reopening in a new location, but in my heart I know that isn’t going to happen.

Update: They may actually be relocating to a new location on Lyndale. I will keep you posted!
